It’s a busy start to the 2024 sporting season for Cricket Fiji with their first international tournament scheduled for Monday, January 15 in New Zealand.
The national women’s cricket team will take on their Pacific counterparts in the Pacific Cup.
The team has been training for months in preparation for the tournament.
The Pacific Cup this year will see the inclusion of more team, Cook Islands and the New Zealand Maori. Cricket Fiji chief executive Siti Rokoro said they had three international tournaments to compete in this year.
“The first one is this month(January) where we will have the Pacific Cup hosted by New Zealand Cricket in Auckland.
“Our national women’s team is currently preparing for that tournament. The first edition was held in Vanuatu in 2022 where four teams participated however, two more teams have joined including the Cook Islands and NZ Maori.
“So those two teams join Fiji, Samoa, Vanuatu, and Papua New Guinea. It will be from January 15-22.”
In May, our national women’s under-19 team will embark for the East Asia Pacific World Cup qualifier in Indonesia.
Fiji will be joined by Samoa and Papua New Guinea.
The national men’s team will head to Samoa for the East Asia Pacific World Cup qualifier in Samoa in August.
