THE soccer crazy town of Ba flips the script once more this Saturday when the McDonald’s Fiji Drua Women and the NSW Waratahs Women will meet there for the grand final of the Super W competition.
It will be a reunion of foes for the two sides; the Drua Women were thrashed 29-42 in Sydney, Australia in round one of the competition.
The loss was head coach Mike Legge’s first result with the team, and since then, the team has built up its stride and strength to topple opponents throughout the competition.
It did so with great fanfare last Saturday at Churchill Park in Lautoka when they beat the Queensland Reds side 31-5 in front of a large turnout of fans, family members and a community of supporters who came out to see the women succeed.
Now, the team heads down to Ba to meet the Waratahs there.
The Waratahs reach our shores this week with a commanding force of attention, after they won 33-22 over the Western Force in Perth last week.
And making the four hour flight from Sydney to Nadi in the coming days means the side will increase the tempo in their engine room of defenders to ensure they earn a back-to-back win of the Super W competition when the dust settles in Ba this Saturday.
The need to win is of the essence for the Sydney warriors; they need a back-to-back win and to add a sixth Super W trophy to their cabinet.
However, as the quest for greatness reaches a fever pitch this week, the winner of their clash will ascend to the next level to meet the winner of the Super Rugby Aupiki competition, the New Zealand segment of the women’s competition, on August 1.
The Drua Women compete in the Australian segment.
Kick-off this Saturday will be at 1.05pm.
