THE relocation of tenants from the deteriorating Nabua Housing estate is an urgent priority for the Ministry of Housing and Local Government and the Public Rental Board (PRB), says Housing Minister Maciu Nalumisa.
The issue was raised by Opposition MP Inia Seruiratu during the Committee of Supply debate on the 2026-2027 National Budget last week.
“Can you give a definite answer to what will happen to the Nabua Housing tenants, and is this next financial year’s grant going to be part of the solution to the issues that they have?” Mr Seruiratu asked.
Responding, Mr Nalumisa said the structural condition of the Nabua Housing blocks had made the relocation of tenants an immediate priority for the ministry and the PRB.
“It is really an urgent issue now for the ministry as well as for the Public Rental Board due to the structural nature of those blocks, it is an urgent need now to relocate them,” he said.
“I think there are about 144 of them, some have been relocated to other vacant flats around PRB estates in Suva, and there are also a few that have been applying with Housing Authority in their upcoming projects.”
“The rest are still part of our relocation program, of this $1.3million.”
Mr Nalumisa said the PRB was also securing about $200,000 to assist with relocating tenants living at the Mead Rd PRB estate.
