Ten fire deaths alarm NFA

Fiji has already recorded ten fire related deaths this year, says National Fire Authority CEO Puamau Sowane.

Mr Sowane made the comment following a fire incident at Vunayawa Settlement, Natalau, Sabeto in Nadi during the early hours of this morning.

“This is a deeply concerning statistic and a stark reminder that fire safety must be taken seriously in every household,” he said.

“We are urging members of the public to remain vigilant and proactive when it comes to fire safety. Many fires can be prevented through simple precautions and awareness.”

CEO Mr Sowane expressed deep concern over the increasing number of structural fires and the devastating impact these incidents continue to have on families and communities.

“This incident is truly heartbreaking, especially knowing that 12 people have now been displaced and have lost their homes and belongings,” he said.

” Fires not only destroy properties, but they also leave emotional and psychological impacts on families who are forced to rebuild their lives from nothing.”

Mr Sowane said the National Fire Authority remains deeply concerned over the growing number of fire related incidents and fatalities recorded this year.

He said a fire investigation would  be carried out to determine the suspected cause of the fire at Vunayawa Settlement in Sabeto, Nadi.
