WITH a clean slate for their match against the Waratahs in Suva today, Swire Shipping Fijian Drua co-captain Temo Mayanavanua says starting fast will be the key area of focus against them.
The Drua face the visitors once again after their round two clash in Sydney, Australia in February where the home side won 36-13.
As the team faces off in Suva in their only match of the season there, Mayanavanua was firm in ironing out what his side needed to work towards in reflection of their earlier clash.
“We just need to start fast, that’s been our focus throughout this week,” Mayanavanua said after the captain’s run yesterday.
“If we could get that right, then we could go into our rhythm throughout the whole 80 minutes.”
Playing to a rhythm of their own composition and commanding its flow will stem from a variety of factors and the ferocity brought on by the Waratahs.
Fijian Drua head coach Glen Jackson told journalists this week the visitors’ backline was a solid wall of defence and acknowledged the mixture as something to keep an eye out for.
Meanwhile, Mayanavanua has described this match as a crucial one, in light of their close 31-26 victory last week over the Highlanders.
“It’s a crucial one; we saw what the Waratahs were able to do against the Highlanders last week so we’ve done a really good week of prep and we all know that they are going to come out firing and that’s what we are preparing for,” he said.
The match kicks off at 4.30pm at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva.
