Amalgamated Telecom Holdings (ATH) is pivoting toward infrastructure sharing and pooled deployments to counter exponentially growing data demands and avoid inefficient capital expenditure (CAPEX) duplication across the Pacific.
ATH chief executive officer Ivan Fong said their focus remained on strengthening telecommunications infrastructure across the country and the wider Pacific. He said as demand for higher speeds and more reliable connectivity continued to grow exponentially, it also drove heavy CAPEX requirements.
“ATH believes that efficient deployment and utilisation of infrastructure, including pooled deployments and shared use as a practical way to avoid such inefficient CAPEX duplication, accelerate network reach, and improve service availability delivering cost efficiency,” Mr Fong said in the company’s 2026 annual report.
“This means working more closely with partners within the ATH Group and, where appropriate, with industry participants to expand coverage, improve resilience, and deliver better outcomes for customers, communities, and shareholders.”
Mr Fong said the telecommunications landscape was also being reshaped by rapid advances in Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite technology, including direct-to-device capability.
“These developments have the potential to disrupt traditional mobile and broadband models, particularly in remote and underserved markets, but they may also create opportunities for partnership, wholesale collaboration, backhaul resilience, and rural connectivity.”
Looking ahead, he said the group was placing significant emphasis on leveraging regional connectivity into broader digital participation, identifying the continued growth of the fintech space as a key commercial opportunity.
“A key opportunity is the continued growth of the fintech space, particularly as we further enhance our M-PAiSA service in Fiji and drive the expansion of digital financial services across the region.”
He added that mobile money, digital wallets, QR payments, and remittances were now mainstream services and extremely important enablers ensuring digital economy participation. Mr Fong said at the group level, restructuring remained an active priority. “ATH remains open to exploring new investment opportunities that are strategically aligned, financially sound and capable of strengthening ATH’s regional position.
