Tebara fights climate change

TEBARA Transport Ltd says it will begin reducing carbon emissions from its buses from next year as part of it’s commitment to fight climate change.

Company owners say Tebara Transport will buy an electric bus next year.

During the plenary session of private sector discussions at the 3rd Pacific Islands Development Forum Leaders meeting, chief executive officer Tebara Transport Arvind Maharaj said the electric bus would drastically reduce daily carbon emissions per day.

“On average a bus can use up to 70 litres of diesel per day and one litre equals 2.65kg of carbon emission, so the purchasing of this bus shows our commitment to fighting climate change.”

Mr Kumar said the bus, costing between $500,000 and $550,000, had been tested and proven roadworthy in China, therefore passengers would not have to worry about their safety.

He said the company hoped to buy solar-powered buses in the next two to three years.
