Teacher released on bail over alleged abduction case in Taveuni
A 39-year-old teacher has been released on bail after appearing in the Taveuni Magistrates Court today over an alleged abduction case involving a Year 10 student.
Ronal Ronish Lal was produced before resident magistrate Semi Babitu, where the matter was called.
Lal has been formally charged with one count of abduction and is scheduled to reappear at the Taveuni Magistrates Court on June 24, 2026.
It is alleged that the accused and the victim had been communicating via Messenger, discussing plans to be together.
The communication was reportedly discovered by the accused’s wife and later brought to the attention of the school principal.
On the night of June 7, 2026, it is alleged that Lal was found with the victim inside his vehicle near the victim’s home.
The matter was then reported to Police, who launched investigations.
