Residents in Savusavu are comparing Severe Tropical Cyclone Yasa to TC Winston in 2016.

Michael Chan says the situation is bad and made worse because the cyclone really hit while it was dark.

Another resident Denzyl Cornish said the winds were starting to die down but the gusts were still strong.

Pettine Simpson, on a Facebook post, wrote that at 9.15pm, her barometer read 27.6 and at its height, TC Winston in 2016 read 27.3.

A barometer reading of 30 is considered normal.

Strong high pressure could register as high as 30.70, whereas low pressure associated with a hurricane can dip below 27.30.

Cherish Prasad says that wind and rain are slowly starting to die down.

“There are no major damage at our end or at least we can see any damage because the electricity supply is down,” Mr Prasad said.
