The Ministry of Local Government is working with police to address illegal activities around the PRB flats in Mead Rd, Nabua, which are expected to be demolished after tenants are relocated.

Minister for Local Government Maciu Nalumisa said he was aware of the illegal activities occurring in the area.

He said meetings would be held with the Ministry of Policing and police to strengthen co-operation in addressing illegal activities around the Mead Rd area.

“There has been collaboration between the ministry and the Ministry of Policing in addressing the illegal activities happening around Mead Rd,” he said.

He said a taskforce had already been formed to look at further action needed in the area.

“There’s a taskforce that is now working on what else needs to be done.”

He said seven blocks at the estate would eventually be demolished once all tenants move out.

“What we’re going to do now is, once we clear the area, we’re going to demolish all seven blocks in the middle.”

He noted that the tenants were originally expected to vacate the premises in December and were granted an extension until February, however, some remained because of financial difficulties.

“Now we’re trying to assist the people in moving.”

Mr Nalumisa confirmed that 105 tenants were still living in the PRB flats while government agencies continued relocation efforts.
