CLOSE to 100 persons of interest and a number of hot spots in the Western Division are reportedly under surveillance as police and military intensify a joint crackdown on illicit drug networks.
Senior officers from the Fiji Police Force and the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) recently held high-level operational meetings in the West as part of the nationwide operation targeting drug syndicates.
Sources indicate that operational teams have identified nearly 100 persons of interest, with several hotspots in the Lautoka and Nadi areas now under close monitoring.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations Kasiano Vusonilawe confirmed that the operation is focused on disrupting criminal networks but declined to provide specific details.
He said intelligence gathering was being coordinated by the RFMF, which is supporting police-led targeted operations aimed at dismantling organised criminal activity.
“We cannot go into specifics, but we assure the public that concerted efforts are underway to dismantle these groups,” ACP Vusonilawe said.
