THE Fiji Table Tennis Association organised a table tennis marathon to organise funds for the para table tennis and national junior girls team for a tournament in New Zealand and South Africa.
The competition started on Friday evening at the Fiji Table Tennis headquarters in Suva.
Fiji Table Tennis Association development management team member Steve Reilly said they were trying to support and develop many children.
“We got a lot of events in Fiji next year which includes international para Olympic event in April and then we got world junior circuit. So we are trying to raise as much money as possible for these events,” he said.
“Sally Yee will be representing Fiji in South Africa. It is a team events and three players will be competing.”
Reilly is an International Table Tennis Federation level two star coach and level one course coordinator.
“From a coaching points of view when an athlete goes to a major tournament, they play day in and day out in the team and individual event and they do not get enough time to rest,” he added.
“It is a fun introduction to them building up stamina. I ran in the five kilometre race with table tennis ball bouncing all along the run just to promote table tennis.”
The competition ends today.
