THE 2026 Fiji National Schools Swimming Championships will serve as a selection event for Fiji’s Schools Swimming Team to the School Sport Australia Games in Melbourne from July 25–31.

Fiji National Schools Swimming Association president Salaseini Lele confirmed to Times Sport this championship serves as an important selection and identification platform for future Fiji Aquatics programs.

“This championship serves as a selection platform for events such as Pacific Games, Commonwealth Games, Youth Olympic Games, and World Aquatics Championships and most importantly to the 2026 School Sport Australia Games,” Lele said.

“Fiji has proudly participated in recent years with the Games held on the Gold Coast in 2024 and Brisbane in 2025.”

The championships are expected to attract more than 700 student swimmers from over 50 primary and secondary schools across the country.

She added the Fiji National Schools Swimming Championships plays a critical role in Fiji’s athlete development pathway.

“The championships continue to provide a critical talent identification platform and remain one of the strongest foundations of Fiji’s swimming pathway system,” she said.

The School Sport Australia pathway has also become an increasingly valuable part of athlete development.

“Competing internationally at school-age level provides young swimmers with exposure to high-performance environments and helps prepare them for future international competitions.

“The national schools swimming championships are therefore not simply about medals – they are about building future of Fiji Swimming”.

The championships are set to take place from tomorrow until Saturday at the Damodar City Aquatic Centre in Suva.
