A win is always special but victory on home soil is much sweeter.
These were the thoughts of Rooster Chicken Fijian Drua women’s centre Vani Arei as the team secured its place in the Super W final next week in Brisbane, Australia.
Writing another piece of history at home, the Drua women bounced back from a shocking defeat to the Rebels two weeks ago to give Fijians a lasting memory at Laucala Bay on a gloomy Friday evening.
“Winning at home is always sweet,” the stalwart centre said.
“We were a bit shaky in the first half, but we found our rhythm in the second half, we worked as a team, stuck to the Fijiana playing style and we got over the tryline.”
The team called for support leading up to the semi-final and they got more than they asked for.
“We acknowledge our families, friends and fans that turned up for the game. We were excited and nervous at the same time, but we pulled through and we thank all the fans for their support.
“We hope that we will get the same support in the final next week,” she added.
The nippy, hard-hitting Lau lass is one of the few players that was part of the Drua’s inaugural winning team two years ago.
The Drua face the Waratahs at Ballymore Stadium in Brisbane next Sunday.
