NADI zone champions Swami Vivekananda College is quietly building momentum ahead of the 2026 Coca-Cola Games, with a small but determined squad aiming to make an impact in Suva this week.
Head of physical education, music and art and craft (PEMAC) Kamal Swamy said preparations had been steady despite challenges, particularly with the recent weather disruptions affecting training schedules.
“I think we’re preparing well but unfortunately the weather was not on our side, so we missed a lot of training.
“Those who have qualified are now doing extra sessions to reach the level needed so they can compete well at the Games.”
The school will travel with a lean squad of 26 athletes, all of whom met the required qualifying standards in their respective events.
“We are taking only 26 students this time those who met the qualifying distance and time,” he said.
Swamy is confident in the team’s strength in the field events, which he believes could deliver positive results for the school.
“Yes, I think we are doing very well in the field events, so we are keeping our fingers crossed that we get good results there.”
Last year, Swami Vivekananda College returned with a modest medal tally of three gold, one silver and one bronze.
This year, the goal is to at least match that performance or better it.
“We will either equal that or we want to do better than that so that we can encourage other students to take part,” Swamy said.
With focused preparation and a committed group of athletes, SVC will be one of the teams to watch, especially in the field events, as they chase improved results at the Coca-Cola Games.
