SWAMI Vivekananda College will enter the Crest Fiji Secondary Schools Netball Championship with three teams after an impressive showing at the Western Secondary Schools Netball Rally.
The Nadi-based school secured qualification in the Under-14, Open Girls and Open Boys divisions, with the Under-14 and Open Girls finishing first while the Open Boys settled for third place.
Teacher-in-charge of netball, Mrs Laisa Tui, said it was an honour to have been involved with the school’s netball programme for the past five years and praised the support provided by the school administration.
The three teams comprise 36 players, with 12 players in each team, and Tui said they were ready for the national competition, which begins tomorrow at Jai Narayan College. Tui said the Open Men’s side was determined to improve on last year’s performance and finish among top three while the Open Girls team are also targeting a better finish after bowing out in the Cup semi-finals last year. However, the school’s excitement is centred on the Under-14 team as they will compete at the national level for the first time.
Tui said the young players had already caught the attention of the school with their performances and talents.
Despite a late Nadi Secondary Schools Netball competition being played back-to-back with the Western Rally, Tui said the demanding schedule did not affect their preparations.
