SUVAVOU reclaimed the Tui Suva Trophy after two years, defeating Vatuwaqa 16-12 at Albert Park, Suva, as part of the week-long Hibiscus Festival celebrations.
Coach Jope Qalia Vutikalulu praised his players for their commitment and hard work in the lead-up to the match.
The team trained twice a day over the past three weeks, with the coach saying that preparation played an important role in their performance.
“I want to thank the boys for their hard work over these three weeks, for the big training we do in the evening and the morning,” Vutikalulu said.
He said the match also provided an opportunity for the players to test themselves and continue developing their skills.
“The boys tried to build up their level of rugby to come into the level of A, so they can enter a big competition like Skipper Cup or go right to the Drua,” he said.
Vutikalulu said the club would continue working with the players through regular weekend rugby, with the aim of developing them for higher-level competitions.
The coach also acknowledged the strong support from the communities who attended the match.
“I thank everyone who attended this game today, a very important game, a very interesting game,” he said.
“I thank Kubuna, Burebasaga and Tovata, they came in numbers to support this good game.”
The 16-12 victory saw Suvavou take the Tui Suva Trophy back after a two-year absence, giving the side a fitting celebration during the Hibiscus Festival.
