“GRASSROOTS development remains the backbone of Suva netball”.

According to newly appointed Suva Netball Association president Koila Kabu, the strength of the sport continues to be built from club level up

Kabu praised the tireless efforts of club officials, coaches and volunteers who continue to nurture young players across the capital.

Speaking at the National Netball Centre, she said development was largely driven at club level through volunteer work and community support.

“When people talk about development, the real investment is happening in the clubs,” Kabu said.

“There are countless hours being put in by coaches and officials who do not get paid, but they continue to give their time for the players.”

She said the association’s development strategy extended beyond players and included strengthening the pathways for umpires, bench officials and administrators.

“We are trying to develop younger umpires, fill gaps among bench officials and strengthen club governance,” she said.

“What makes the Suva Netball Association so colourful and vibrant is the clubs themselves. They have dedicated presidents, managers, coaches and parents who continue to invest in the sport.”

Kabu believes strong club structures will play a key role in shaping the association’s future between 2026 and 2027.

She added that the association would continue working closely with clubs to provide resources and support to ensure netball development remains strong throughout the Suva area.
