THE Tavua Magistrate’s Court has suspended a 60-day prison sentence for three years for a man who admitted to slapping his wife’s face with a flip-flop.
Magistrate Timoci Qalinauci imposed the sentence following the man’s guilty plea for the offence committed on June 26.
The court heard that around 8pm on the day in question in Tavua Town, the victim had gone to the Smile Kava Bar with her sister after the man agreed to look after their sleeping children. He later went to the bar entrance, called her outside, and slapped her on the face and cheeks with a flip-flop.
The court also issued a Domestic Violence Restraining Order for the protection of the victim.
