A NEW support service for women will soon be launched as Government moves to address challenges such as family violence, stigma and economic hardship.

Minister for Women, Children and Social Protection Sashi Kiran said many women continued to face difficulties regardless of their social or economic status.

She said women with greater economic independence often had more options available to them, but many still struggled to seek help because of stigma and other barriers.

“We do invite women to come out and speak to us, but it remains a challenge,” she said.

In this regard, she said the ministry is developing a new service aimed at strengthening support for women facing difficult circumstances.

She said the initiative would complement existing efforts by government agencies and community organisations.

“We are making sure that we are supporting them and providing the services they need.”
