The Fijian Government will continue to support the women economic empowerment program as this will boost economic transformation in the communities and our economy says Minister for Women, Children, and Poverty Alleviation, Rosy Akbar.
While handing over the kitchen and cooking materials as part of the income-generating project to the Maumi women’s group in Tailevu, Ms Akbar said “When our women earn, they do not benefit alone — their families and communities benefit as well as they re-invest their income into the wellbeing of their families.”
“I’m so glad to see that these women are so vocal and bold enough to ask for what they need. This is indeed a great quality to have,” Ms Akbar said.
“Do not be shy to bank on opportunities. I’m sure this assistance will not only allow the women’s group to be able to generate their own income, but will allow them to diversify their income-generating methods and be economically independent to support their families,” she said.
She said that this income-generating project is supported and funded by the Office of the Prime Minister’s Small Grant Scheme.
“The Prime Minister, Honorable Voreqe Bainimarama, is committed to and fully supported the women economic empowerment programme in Fiji and had made a commitment to support this project under the 2021/2022 budget allocation. This income-generating project is worth $5,000.”
She encouraged the women’s group members to involve all women, and even persons living with disabilities to become economically empowered and be economically active.
“Let’s help them find avenues and make use of all opportunities possible to do so. Women can play an essential role in Fiji’s transformation and this income-generating project will help to provide access and opportunities for new and existing women entrepreneurs, and is also aligned with Fiji’s five and 20-year national development plans.”
