Retail grocery and wholesale supermarket chain Shop N Save has come on board to lend a timely boost as sponsors of the East v West snooker and billiard competition in Suva this Sunday.
The supermarket extends a long-standing partnership with the competition, which returns to Suva after it was held in Lautoka last year.
President of the hosts, the Southern Division Billiard and Snooker Association, David Shiu Ratnam thanked the supermarket for their continued backing of the tournament.
According to him, the supermarket has covered expenses relating to the transportation of players, food and uniforms.
These are expenses for players travelling from the West and others in the East.
“I thank Shop N Save for coming on board for snooker and supporting snooker every year and they’ve covered the travelling expenses for both sides, the uniforms and the food,” Ratnam explained.
Shop N Save’s backing has added a timely boost for the tournament, where new players are stepping in to compete and the seasoned ones continue to show their brilliance on the billiard table.
“There are many young players which we have got playing this year.”
The competition, sponsored by supermarket chain Shop N Save, will be staged for 80 players across a variety of categories as Team West will defend the title.
Team West won 10 out of 17 frames against Team East.
Players will compete in nine singles events, six doubles, a veteran clash and a billiard clash.
The event will be held at the Merchant Club on Butt St opposite Pacific House.
