Rugby enthusiasts in the Western Division will be treated to some top level grassroots 7s action as the two-day Fiji Bitter Mataso 7s is set to commence from Friday at Churchill Park in Lautoka.

Newcomers Joma Brothers and Namalata from Kadavu will featute in the tournament for the first time.

The Fiji Bitter Series has had two different winners so far with BLK Lavidi Brothers lifting the Kadavu 7s trophy and Police Blue claiming the top prize in Malake, Ra three weeks ago.

Sivaniolo Nayacatabu, who is the Mataso 7s president, said that spoke volume of the growing level of competition.

“All teams are well prepared and they all aim to return home with the trophy and the prizemoney.  There’s two different winners so far in this series so we should expect all teams to come out guns blazing this weekend.

“Gone are the days where we pin-point the favourites and mark them as likely winners; all teams are competitive and the level of rugby has improved so fans should expect some surprises,” Nayacatabu stated.

Nayacatabu called on fans across the Western Division to show up in numbers and support their teams.

Ticket prices for Friday are $8 Pavilion A for adults, $6 Pavilion B, $5 for the grass area and $3 for children.

On Saturday, adults will have to pay $10 for Pavilion A while ticket prices for the other areas remain the same. Police is the defending Mataso 7s champions.
