A new policing strategy is being touted as the answer to growing public concern over law enforcement performance.

Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu has backed the Ministry of Policing Strategic Plan 2025–2030, saying it reflects strong Government commitment to reform.

“Well, first of all, I would like to extend my appreciation to the ministry for having the framework launch today,” he said.

He described the plan as a clear sign of “the political will that is coming from the Government in support to the operationalisation of things that we are doing on the ground”.

Mr Tudravu said the strategy would guide policing priorities, including resources, capability and legislative support.

He stressed that tackling crime required a whole-of-community approach.

“If you hear from the comments of the Prime Minister, it is calling for all comers, the participation of all, in regards to national security,” he said.

The Commissioner acknowledged ongoing public concern about policing, but said the plan provided a long-term framework to address these issues.

He said collaboration between agencies and the public would be key to success.

The strategy outlines priorities including modernisation, intelligence-led policing and stronger community engagement.

Mr Tudravu said the plan would not deliver overnight results but would set a clear direction for sustained improvements.

He urged the public to support police efforts as reforms are rolled out.
