Stop now.
This was the strong warning from Black Rock Camp Commander Brigadier General Manoa Gadai to drug dealers in the Western Division as the Joint Counter Narcotics Task Force Operation officially began in the region.
Speaking at a rugby tournament in Nadi over the weekend, Brig-Gen Gadai did not mince his words warning that those engaged in the drug trade would be dealt with the heavy hand of the law.
“Ke o iko e dua o volitaka tiko se o vakayagataka tiko na wai gaga, me cegu (if you are selling drugs, cease it),” said Mr Gadai.
“Au tukuna tale vakarua ke o iko e dua o bula tiko kina – nomu bula, nomu matavuvale, nomu kawa ena vanua o Nadi au sa tukuna yani qo mo ni yalo vinaka sara me cegu baleta na liga ni lawa e kaukauwa. (Let me repeat myself again, if you are someone who is making a living out of this – your life, your family, your lineage in the vanua of Nadi, I am telling you now, please stop, because the long arm of the law is strong).
“Sa keitou tu vakarau me keitou cakacaka kei ratou na ovisa ena kena vakarusai na wai gaga (We are ready to work with the police in the destruction of illicit drugs).”
He said the main gateway for the sale and consumption of illicit drugs was the Nadi area.
Brig-Gen Gadai then made a plea to the vanua o Nadi to work with authorities in dismantling criminal networks in and around the town.
The Black Rock Commander led high level discussions recently with the Fiji Police Force in Nadi during the official launch of the Joint Counter Narcotics Task Force Operation in the region.
Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu maintained the RFMF would play a supportive role in the operations.
“As agreed to with the Commander of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces, they will play a supporting role in the intel led operations, targeting those involved in the illicit drug trade and associated crimes,” he told this newspaper.
“Police will continue to take the lead role in the operations and based on intel gathered will decide appropriate responses.
“The intent is focused on disrupting, dismantling and destroying criminal networks.”
