Several roads have been closed and blocked because of flooding and fallen trees as Severe Tropical Cyclone Harold heads for the Fiji group.

The Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) has confirmed that Queens Road at Nabukelevu Road junction in Navua is closed due to flooding, while the Tavualevu Bridge in Tavua is also underwater.

The Kings Road is closed at the bridge in Tavua Town, while Korovou in Tailevu has been reduced to a single lane due to a fallen tree blocking the road.

“The heavy rain experienced overnight and in the early hours of this morning has seen rivers and streams rise quickly,’ the FRA stated.

“Members of the public are advised to be extremely careful and not drive into water of unknown depth and current as this can be life-threatening.”

Members of the public have also been urged to remain vigilant and adhere to the advice of emergency services.

FRA can be contacted on 5720 if they have queries about the affected roads and crossings.
