The Kadavu Provincial Council has issued a warning for villagers on the island to start moving to higher ground as they brace for Severe Tropical Cyclone Harold.
In a statement issued in the last hour, the council has urged all village headmen to start making the move as STC Harold had the potential of creating tidal waves reaching up to six metres in height.
“For villages on the coastline, you are urged to start moving your families to higher ground,” the council said.
“We are hoping that this advisory will be taken seriously and people are urged to pass on the message to others.”
