State ready for trial

THE State is ready to proceed to trial against former deputy prime minister Manoa Kamikamica, with proceedings scheduled to commence on July 20.

Senior prosecutor Josann Pene told Magistrate Charles Ratakele yesterday the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption was prepared and ready to prosecute the matter.

Mr Kamikamica faces one count of perjury and one count of providing false information to a public servant.

The trial is scheduled to run for three days before Magistrate Ratakele in the Suva Magistrates’ Court.

The prosecution intends to call four witnesses while the defence has indicated it will call one witness should there be a case to answer.

The matter has been adjourned for trial at 10.30am on July 20.
