THE Saint John Primary School, based in Wailoku, Tamavua, kick started their Suva Kaji Rugby competition on a high after a 7-all draw with Suva Primary School yesterday.
Though this may not sound impressive to many, the side had not been in the competition for the past three years and were able to draw with a well established team in Suva Primary School.
Head coach Murivanua Semainaliwa said being able to hold a tough such like Suva Primary School to a draw was an achievement in itself for his side.
“This is the first time playing competitive rugby for most of the boys and to be able to hold Suva Primary School to a draw is a good start,” he said.
Semainaliwa said while there were a lot of areas his side needed to work on, he was happy with their performance yesterday.
“Yes there is a lot of work left for improvement but the boys played well today and I am happy with their performance.”
He also thanked all the parents of the students for turning up to St Marcelin Primary School grounds yesterday to support the team.
“The turnout of the parents was very encouraging and it showed in the way the boys played because they were happy to see their parents there.”
