Fiji’s sporting community is shifting its attention towards one of the most anticipated nights on the national sporting calendar, with preparations now well underway for the 2025 Fiji Sports Awards.

Set for July 4 at the Vodafone Arena in Suva, the annual celebration will once again bring together the country’s leading athletes, coaches, officials, volunteers and sporting organisations to recognise a year of standout performances across both regional and international competitions.

For many in the sporting community, the awards night is more than just an annual event, it is a moment to pause, reflect, and celebrate the dedication and effort that often happens away from the spotlight.

Before the main ceremony takes centre stage in July, attention will turn to the Nominees Night on June 20, which is increasingly seen as a special and meaningful part of the awards calendar.

The evening will formally recognise nominees across 11 categories, with each individual and team receiving a nominee trophy in acknowledgment of their achievements during 2025. While winners will not be revealed on the night, the event offers something just as important — a chance to honour the journey that brought each nominee to be selected by their sport.

For many athletes, it is also a rare opportunity to step back from competition, share the moment with teammates, families, and coaches, and reflect on the sacrifices and hard work that often go unseen throughout the season.

The 11 categories represent a wide cross-section of sport in Fiji, recognising not only elite athletes, but also coaches, teams, and individuals who play a vital role in developing and supporting sporting success at all levels.

With Fiji continuing to produce strong performances across multiple disciplines including rugby, athletics, swimming, football, and more the depth of talent, the awards are expected to make the selection process especially competitive.

The collaboration between the Fiji Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee (FASANOC), the Fiji National Sports Commission, and the Fiji Sports Council continues to form the backbone of the event, ensuring consistency and strong national support for the awards.

Following a year marked by impressive performances from Fijian athletes on both regional and international stages, expectations are high that the 2025 awards will be among the most competitive yet.

FASANOC president and chair of the Organising Committee, Cathy Wong, has previously highlighted this broader meaning, describing the event as a reflection of the values that underpin sport in Fiji.

“This is not just a celebration of results, but a recognition of the dedication, discipline, and passion that define Fiji’s sporting community,” she said.

Her message continues to resonate strongly within the sporting fraternity, particularly among young athletes who see the awards as both recognition and inspiration.

As Nominees Night draws closer, anticipation continues to build across the country. For nominees, it marks the beginning of a proud moment of recognition, while for the wider sporting community, it signals the official start of the countdown to one of Fiji’s biggest nights in sport.
