The Social Democratic Liberal Party has found itself embroiled in a maelstrom of internal discord with key members resigning or threatening to abandon the party as a result of recent decisions taken by the management board.

While the party’s general secretary Viliame Takayawa tried to shake off the growing dissent by saying the “Coalition was intact”, overseas and west-based supporters, as well as its youth members, decried the “questionable” move to replace current leader Viliame Gavoka who is the Deputy Prime Minister in the Coalition Government.

The warring factions are set to go head-to-head when they meet today for the annual general meeting where the management board will seek to endorse backbencer Aseri Radrodro as party leader.
