The Social Democratic Liberal Party (SODELPA) announced the sudden loss of party president and Turaga nai Taukei Waimaro, Ratu Manoa Roragaca, on Friday.

In a statement, Deputy Prime Minister and party member Viliame Gavoka said Ratu Manoa had “espoused a personality that was good-natured, humble and respectful”.

“Deeply saddened to have learnt the sudden passing of our party president and Turaga nai Taukei Waimaro, Ratu Manoa Roragaca,” Mr Gavoka wrote.

The late Taukei Waimaro was elected president in 2022 taking over the reins of leadership from the Turaga na Tui Kaba na Vunivalu, Ratu Epenisa Cakobau.

“Upon his election as president of SODELPA, he led the party towards a period where we brought an end to the FijiFirst dictatorial rule. A legacy he has left behind for his people to remember.

“SODELPA is grateful to his family, vanua and people for allowing their chief to be part of our political party despite the many setbacks we faced.

“We join the family and vanua in mourning the sad passing of the Taukei Waimaro and pray the Lord Almighty grants them peace and strength to endure this very difficult time.”
