ORGANISERS opposing the rezoning of Lot 32, Covuli Street,Simla,Lautoka are making steady progress toward a public demonstration while advancing multi-track legal steps to halt commercial development in the residential zone.Following the August 17 notice approving Amendment No. 177 to the City of Lautoka Town Planning Scheme, community leaders have shifted into active preparation to contest the transition.
Lautoka Residents and Ratepayers Association President Narayan Reddy confirmed that administrative steps for the upcoming march are nearly complete.“We will be, we have to get all the letters from the roads and all those authorities first, get their approval. And before the end of the month, we will be having the march,” he said. “The paperwork is ready, it’s just I have to lodge the paperwork application.”
Key milestones have already been reached as organizers coordinate municipal permits and build neighborhood consensus for the upcoming event. “The whole of Simla is supporting this. Nobody wants that project to be held in Simla. “It will be similar to what happened with the TNG protest.”Parallel progress is also unfolding on the legal front, despite dialogue with municipal officials remaining stalled.
“No word yet from council, they’re just blaming the town and country planning.”Formal complaints have already reached iFICAC , with further judicial measures prepared to ensure the community’s position is heard.
