THE Kaiviti Silktails believe their newest partnership with Westpac Fiji is about far more than rugby league.
Speaking during the launch of the partnership between Westpac Fiji and the Kaiviti Silktails Rugby League Football Club chairman Petero Civoniceva describing the deal as a “Fijian first” focused on building better young men on and off the field.
Civoniceva said the sponsorship validates the work the club has been doing in youth development and community outreach.
“This partnership is one that not only is about supporting our development program but also about making a difference off the field as well,” he said.
A major component of the partnership will see Westpac deliver financial literacy training to Silktails players, helping them better understand money management and life skills as they pursue professional rugby league careers.
Civoniceva said the initiative is aligned with the club’s wider vision of developing complete individuals.
“It’s all about them being the best person they could be on and off the football field, understanding how their finances work,” he said.
The program will also extend into communities through the Silktails’ Catch Pass school initiative, giving students access to financial education alongside rugby league development.
“We can also extend that education to our young students that will be participating in the Catch Pass program as well.”
Civoniceva praised Westpac Fiji chief executive Shane Smith for backing the Silktails project, saying the partnership strengthens the credibility of the club’s long-term mission.
Westpac Fiji chief executive, Shane Smith extends their support for the Fijian community through this partnership with the Kaiviti Silktails.
“We really admire what the Silktails are doing on and off the field, investing in communities as well as developing players, and we’re proud to be part of their next chapter,” Smith said.
The Silktails have increasingly positioned themselves as more than a rugby league club, with pathways, education and youth empowerment now central pillars of the organisation’s identity.
