A COORDINATED maritime operation was carried out at Bau landing as authorities oversaw the safe transport of passengers to Bau Island for the State funeral of the former President, Ratu Epeli Nailatikau last week.
A team from the Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji (MSAF), worked in collaboration with partner agencies throughout the day to monitor operations and ensure safety protocols were strictly followed.
MSAF said officers conducted vessel checks and enforced full compliance measures, while working alongside the Fiji Police Force’s Water Police Unit, the Republic of Fiji Navy, and the Republic of Fiji Military Forces.
The joint operation facilitated the movement of passengers, including distinguished guests, Cabinet Ministers, and members of the diplomatic corps, ensuring their safe passage to the island.
MSAF confirmed that it had ensured the safe and secure passage of the vessel carrying the late former President en-route to Bau Island.
All vessels involved in the operation were verified to be equipped with the required lifesaving appliances.
