THE transition from classroom learning to life aboard a naval vessel took an important step forward when recruits of the RFN 1/26 Basic Recruit Course visited the Republic of Fiji Navy Base at Walu Bay, Suva.
The ship familiarisation tour held on October 29 gave the recruits practical exposure to shipboard operations as they prepared for their future roles in the navy.
The Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) Force Training Group said the visit marked an important milestone in the recruits’ journey towards becoming professional naval personnel.
During the tour, recruits learned about ship structures and compartments, watch, quarter and station bill responsibilities, and bridge helm communication procedures.
The experience gave them a better understanding of the naval environment, and the responsibilities involved in operating at sea.
The Force Training Group said the exposure reinforced the importance of discipline, teamwork, safety and operational readiness in preparing recruits for future naval service.
It also acknowledged HQ Navy and the ship’s personnel for their support and guidance in making the learning experience possible.
