NEWLY-appointed Cricket Fiji coach Shane Jurgensen is ready for the challenge.

The former Bangladesh coach, will be in charge of the national senior men’s, women’s and age-group teams for the next three years.

Speaking to ESPNcricinfo, Jurgensen said it would be a busy role with a heavy amount of coaching looking after the national teams.

“The job is based in Suva and the first assignment is to prepare the men’s squad for an India tour and the WCL (World Cricket League) qualification tournament in October and November, from which there is a chance to go into Division 6, to qualify to the World T20’s qualifying tournament,” he said.

Fiji is in the WCL’s Division 7 after finishing fourth last year.

Jurgensen said he was committed to raising the standard of the sport.”

The amount of coaching involved is the exciting part, it will take me back to the reason why I love coaching: to help develop and support passionate cricketers,” he said.

“I hope to bring my experience, coaching methods and plan to help players give them opportunity for long-term success.”
