Shandil: Don’t expect special favours from council

DONORS cannot expect special favours from the Consumer Council of Fiji when it comes to consumer rights issues, according to CEO Seema Shandil.

Ms Shandil stated this during the council’s submission to the parliamentary Standing Committee on Public Accounts on its 2016-2017 audit report in Suva today.

“Right from the beginning, they (donors) are told that they cannot expect any favour when it comes to consumer issues. We are here only for the consumers and we will continue to fight for consumer rights,” she said.

Ms Shandil was responding to questions raised about the possible conflict of interest regarding British American Tobacco’s $3000 sponsorship of the council’s activity on World Consumer Rights Day in the 2016 financial year.
