SEVENS maestro Waisale Serevi is confident in Fiji Airways Fiji men’s 7s coaches Osea Kolinisau and Jerry Tuwai’s guidance to help steer the national side to success this weekend at the Bordeaux 7s.
Speaking to Times Sport in Nabua, Suva yesterday, he said he knew the two former players and Olympic gold medallists would find a way to navigate the team through the tournament, which starts tonight.
“They have Jerry Tuwai and Osea Kolinisau; they know what to do,” Serevi said.
“I believe they’ll figure something out.”
Serevi has also stressed Fiji’s dynamism in the sevens arena continued to shine brightly, despite the tough opposition now posed by emerging teams on the HSBC SVNS.
“Sevens is our game — we are sevens rugby. We play more sevens than any other team in the world,” he pointed out.
“I don’t agree with people saying other teams have gone to the next level.
“They just need to figure out how to get to the next level.”
Getting to that level will mean head coach Kolinisau’s men will now put the pieces of the series puzzle in place to fully develop the opportunity to successfully clinch the Bordeaux 7s title this weekend and a possible claim as winners of the entire series.
Serevi has affirmed this path, as Fiji’s campaign begins tomorrow morning at 12.44am against Kenya in their first pool match.
“They have another opportunity this week and I believe they can win,” he said.
“They need to look at what they’re doing, improve their defence and adjust their attacking system.”
Following Fiji’s clash with the Kenyans, they face Great Britain at 6.14am and South Africa at 9.06pm.
