Retaining kickoffs is one of the key areas Fiji Airways Men’s 7s head coach Osea Kolinisau has been working on with his side for the past three weeks.

The former 7s skipper and Olympics gold medallist said retaining kick-offs was crucial because having possession of the ball was the goal of all teams during any match.

“We’ve been focusing a lot on our kick-offs because we know other teams are targeting us because we can be dangerous when we’re in possession early in a game,” he said.

“They know that the longer they give Fiji the possession, Fiji will be able to work out something and score from there.”

He also mentioned fitness as another area he’s been working on with his side ahead of the upcoming HSBC Hong Kong 7s tournament.

“We want to get our fitness up there because we want to be the one controlling the game whenever we jump on the field.

“We will be able to do that once our fitness level is up to expectations.”

Tackling was another area Kolinisau emphasised on, adding that defence was the best type of offence for any team.

“This is one of the boys’ weaknesses from the last tournament, so we have been working on that as well over the past three weeks.”
