Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu says maintaining a safe and secure environment is critical to sustaining Fiji’s tourism industry and attracting investment, as a new police post was officially opened at Port Denarau Marina.
The new Port Denarau Marina Police Post was commissioned yesterday, through a partnership between the Fiji Police Force, Port Denarau Marina Pte Limited and Flame Tree Ltd. The facility was made possible after Flame Tree Ltd purchased and refurbished a container, while Port Denarau Marina provided the land.
Speaking at the opening, Commissioner Tudravu said the collaboration reflected the growing commitment of the private sector to supporting law enforcement.
He said the police-private partnership supports his strategic vision of “Stability and Growth”, noting that security underpins confidence in Fiji’s economy.
“The private sectors’ support towards law enforcement is sure to create stability leading to growth. Stability in security leads to investor confidence, growth in tourism sector, healthy visitor arrivals and more employment opportunities.”
The Commissioner said Denarau remains one of Fiji’s busiest tourism hubs, serving as a gateway to many of the country’s island destinations, making a strong police presence essential.
He also pointed to Fiji’s tourism performance, saying visitor numbers demonstrated continued confidence in the country’s safety.
“Contrary to things being said about the safety and security of our nation, Fiji’s visitor arrivals say otherwise as the month of June 2026, holidaymakers dominated visitor arrivals, accounting for 81 per cent of all visitors.”
“Security is an important criterion in choosing a holiday destination, and it takes collaboration such as this to create that conducive environment for visitors to come and enjoy our Fijian hospitality.”
Port Denarau Marina General Manager Cynthia Rasch echoed the importance of security to the tourism industry, saying it supports visitor confidence and business growth.
The event also marked the opening of a new jetty at the marina, increasing berth capacity for vessels. Mrs Rasch said the expansion would create greater demand across the tourism sector and generate more employment opportunities.
The Fiji Police Force thanked the business community for its continued support in strengthening law enforcement capabilities and enhancing public safety.
