Two-year-old Avyan Narayan and Aseri Navura, 13, will remember September 1, 2026, as their second birthday.
The two were discharged from the Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Heart Hospital Fiji on that day after undergoing free heart catheter procedures earlier this week.
Their treatment was carried out through the Sai Prema Gift of Life program during a paediatric cardiac mission led by National University Hospital Singapore, in partnership with Sanjeevani Fiji and specialist teams from Australia and India.
For the children and their families, the procedures offered more than medical treatment — they brought relief, hope and a renewed future.
Hospital director and CEO Dr Krupali Tappoo said the international collaboration demonstrated what could be achieved when specialists united for children in need.
“Our shared commitment ensures that no child is ever denied life-saving heart care due to financial circumstances,” Dr Tappoo said.
Special guest Maynesh Patel, representing Delta Company from Canada, described the initiative as generational, with today’s children benefiting from support that could shape lives for years to come.
The latest procedures add to Sanjeevani Fiji’s record of 472 successful paediatric heart surgeries, alongside 56,782 free screenings and 85,534 consultations across Fiji and the Pacific.
For Avyan and Aseri, however, the numbers are personal.
September 1 is the day their hearts were given a second chance.
