WITH Deans season fast approaching, participating schools have stepped onto the field for crucial pre-season clashes, using the warm-up matches to sharpen their skills and identify areas needing improvement before the competition kicks off at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva on August 23.

Yesterday, the under-19 teams of Marist Brothers High School (MBHS) and Queen Victoria School (QVS) faced off in a spirited encounter on the MBHS grounds. Although labelled a friendly match, the intensity on the field told a different story as QVS controlled much of the contest to secure a 20-12 win.

Speaking to reporters after the match, QVS head coach Josaia Waiwalu described the build games as “baby steps” in the team’s journey in reaching their full potential this season.

“It’s just baby steps, just trusting the process and taking one game at a time,” Waiwalu shared.

Waiwalu also shared his hopes of guiding the team into the quarter-finals in this year’s competition, believing early fixtures are helping the team build confidence, discipline, and momentum.
