The Southeast Zone quarter-finals are set to begin this Saturday, while the West Zone will be having their semi-finals.

Fiji Secondary Schools Rugby League (FSSRL) media officer Lai Corerega stated despite the weather conditions, it was important for the respective zones to complete their competition by Week 10 for FSSRL to be ready for the nationals in Week 11.

“This will see four teams from each grade U15, U17, U19 from both zones qualifying for the nationals,” said Corerega.

“The Southeast Zone must complete a mid-week game from last week, which was postponed due to school closures in Viti Levu.

“The Pherrus Trophy for schoolgirls in the Southeast Zone has just completed round three and will be heading into the Zone quarter-finals this week.

“The West Zone has already selected their four national qualifying teams, Ra High Roosters, Jasper Vickings, Nakauvadra Raiders and Nasikawa Raiders.

“The West Zone will be hosting their semi-finals this Saturday, with confirmed teams like Naitasiri Warriors, RKS Eels, Lomaivuna Raiders, Bua Sea Eagles, Nasinu Panthers and QVS Knights in the U19 category, two more teams will be confirmed later in the week.

“The U17 category will see teams like Suva Sangam Titans, Nasinu Panthers, Lelean Bati, QVS Knights, Marist Storms and Vashist Muni Sea eagles compete in the semi-finals with two more teams to be confirmed.

“Fans can expect an exciting atmosphere during the zone quarter-finals, semi-finals, and finals with everyone cheering for their favorite teams to qualify for the nationals.”

This year, all nationals will be held at Prince Charles Park in Nadi.

The schoolgirls’ quarter-finals will also be held on the same day and venue.

FSSRL wishes all participating teams the best of luck in their quest to qualify for the nationals and thanked to non-qualifying schools for their participation and hopes they will continue to show interest in the sport next season.
