Former RFMF officer James Sanday has been appointed  as Independent Review Lead for the Government’s National Security and Defence Review.

Minister for Home Affairs and Immigration Pio Tikoduadua made the announcement today.

The Independent Review Lead will report to the National Security Council.

Mr Sanday will commence in early 2024.

He will report to Mr Tikoduadua and the National Security Council.

Mt Tikoduadua said Mr Sanday would have full discretion to undertake the review in accordance with the Terms of Reference set by the Fiji Government.

He said the Review would undertake extensive consultations with the public, government stakeholders, and civil society organisations.

“Community engagement is a key priority for the Fiji Government to ensure the review reflects the diversity of all Fijians,” Mr Tikoduadua said.

“As a nation, we must engage the Review with a spirit of collaboration and optimism so that we all move toward a future of prosperity and peace.

“Under Mr Sanday’s stewardship, the Review will serve as a historic opportunity for every Fijian to contribute to a dialogue that defines and secures our nation’s future. It is an opportunity to solidify our shared values in our national defence and security strategy.”
