In a spectacular display of talent and determination, Setareki Saukilagi, a student from Vunisea Secondary School in Kadavu, emerged victorious by securing the gold medal in the intermediate boys 200m final, with a time of 22.77 seconds yesterday.
Grateful for this significant achievement, the 17-year-old expressed his immense pride in not only himself but also in his school, recognising the uphill battle they faced as representatives from a remote island.
“Winning the gold medal is a dream come true for me, especially coming from a small school in Kadavu, it feels amazing to have achieved this feat despite the challenges we face in terms of resources and finances,” said Saukilagi.
Saukilagiremains resolute in his determination to continue improving and achieving success in forthcoming competitions, with a steadfast goal of enhancing his performance and bringing more glory to his school.
Juggling the demands of academia and athletics is no easy feat, yet Saukilagimanaged to thrive in both spheres, a testament to his dedication and hard work.

Meanwhile, Emosi Laqere of Mahatma Gandhi Memorial High School came in second place in 22.81s, while Ratu Kadavulevu School won bronze with Joseph Andrew in a time of 22.84s.
