Sacred religious books and other materials have allegedly been damaged or taken during a break-in at the Gopal Sadhu Hanuman Gadhi Mandir.
The temple, in a social media post, said the alleged break-in occurred last night and also resulted in damage to temple property.
“With great sadness and concern, we wish to inform our community that Gopal Sadhu Hanuman Gadhi Mandir was broken into last night,” the temple said.
It described the damage and loss of sacred religious books and materials as particularly distressing, saying they held deep spiritual, cultural and religious significance for the community.
The temple strongly condemned the incident and called on authorities to conduct a thorough investigation.
It has also called for CCTV footage and other available evidence to be examined and for increased police patrols and security around the temple and surrounding community.
“We urgently need stronger policing and increased security around our temple and surrounding community to prevent such incidents from happening again,” the statement said.
The temple has appealed to anyone who saw or heard anything unusual in the area last night, or who may have relevant CCTV or security footage, to contact Police or the temple committee.
“Our temple is a place of worship, peace and community. It must be protected and respected,” it said.
Community members have been urged to remain calm, united and vigilant while allowing authorities to investigate the incident.
