ISRAEL will continue to work with Fiji diplomatically despite public pushback against its presence in the country.
Speaking on The Fiji Times online portal The Lens @177 on Wednesday, Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar said the opposition from protestors against the state of Israel were from a group who “did not care for Fiji.”
“These protesters, I don’t care about them,” Mr Sa’ar said.
“They will be against Israel anyhow.”
Mr Sa’ar said his meetings in Fiji had focused on areas where Israel could work with the country, including agriculture, water, defence and other fields.
He said Israel had put forward possible areas of cooperation for the Fijian Government to consider, and discussions would continue on where both countries could work together.
Mr Sa’ar said Israel had worked with Fiji for many years, particularly in agriculture, and expected that cooperation to increase in the future.
“We trained so many people dealing with agriculture here in this country, and the numbers will be much higher in the future.”
However, Mr Sa’ar criticised those who protested against Israel, saying they were not interested in how Israel could contribute to Fiji’s development.
