DRAVO rugby team head coach Tevita Kamakamica is happy with the program put up by the Island Breeze Rugby Plus organisation.
The team will compete in the Tailevu Rugby Union competition in the premier division this year.
More than 250 people live in Dravo Village in Tailevu and they depend on the fishing and farming for their livelihood.
The villagers sell their farm produce and their catch at the Nausori market.
“We have a lot of doors opening for the young rugby players in the village,” he said.
“Dravo rugby team has never won the Tailevu Rugby Union competition because most of the players were away from rugby. Some of them went to the western side to cut sugar cane and lost interest.
“We had difficulties in forming a team for the past two years but with the educational program brought in by the Island Breeze Rugby Plus, the players have come back and showed a lot of dedication and interest.”
Kamakamica said the village had produced one of the Fiji’s fifteens international Epeli Ruivadra who played for the Flying Fijians from 2002-2016 making 16 appearance playing at centre and wing positions.
“We have some other players from the village who have joined the police and military and played in the Sukuna Bowl Challenge.
“These players include Peni Kamakamica and Sairusi Ranuku,” he added.
