CONCERNED about the non-communicable disease crisis in the region, Fijian and Pacific Island rugby union and rugby league stars are putting their hands up in a bid to address the issue.

This was the message shared by Health Minister, Dr Ifereimi Waqainabete, to more than 70 Pacific Islands Education and Health Ministry representatives attending the World Health Organization’s workshop on Strengthening Health Promoting Schools in Nadi this week.

“We have been talking with some of the representatives of Pacific Island players and past players,” he said.

“They have been coming to us and engaging via email about wanting to do some work with us on NCDs in the Pacific.”
